The New Brighton Lions had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell just short of Carlynton by a score of 46-43. New Brighton lost against Carlynton in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 71-35 score last time.
Carlynton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jake Moldovan out in front who scored 9 points. Julian Torres was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 5 rebounds.
New Brighton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Carlynton, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
New Brighton will head out on the road to face off against Hopewell at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopewell presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than New Brighton in Pennsylvania (Hopewell is ranked 15th, while New Brighton is ranked 122nd). As for Carlynton, they will be playing at home against Quaker Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Quaker Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday.
