After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Peck, Caseville was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Merritt Academy Mustangs 68-34. Considering the Eagles' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Logan Feltner went supernova, rushing for 227 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making eight total tackles and defending two passes. Another player making a difference was Ben Nugent, who rushed for 82 yards and a pair of TDs.
Caseville didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Merritt Academy to a completion percentage of just 42.9%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Feltner and Nathan White, who each logged two passes deflected. Caseville wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 62.5%.
Caseville's defensive line also made the game a nightmare for Ethan Wolfe., racking up 8.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Bowen Terwilliger and Nugent, who racked up 5.5 sacks between them.
When it comes to explaining why Merritt Academy lost, don't look at Brody Westhouse. Despite the final result, he rushed for 154 yards and one score while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Westhouse showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 53 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Wolfe, who threw for 155 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Caseville's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-2. As for Merritt Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.
Caseville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 58-28 victory against Carsonville-Port Sanilac on the 26th. As for Merritt Academy, they have also already played their next matchup, a 48-16 defeat against North Huron on the 26th.
