Heritage Academy is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Santa Cruz Valley is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Heroes will welcome the Dust Devils at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Heritage Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.9 runs per game this season.
Heritage Academy had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt ALA - Anthem South on Tuesday. The Heroes put the hurt on the Titans with a sharp 22-7 victory. The Heroes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Isaias Ruiz was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, six RBI, and two triples. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Derick Cervantes was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Heritage Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Santa Cruz Valley narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Tempe Prep 3-2.
Richard Reyes made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Reyes wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Montijo, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Heritage Academy's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Santa Cruz Valley, their win bumped their record up to 13-2.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Heritage Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .522. However, it's not like Santa Cruz Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .528. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Heritage Academy suffered a grim 18-8 defeat to Santa Cruz Valley in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Heroes have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
