The Orland Trojans had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42.5 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Corning 55-25 at home. The result was nothing new for Orland, who have now won seven matchups by 25 points or more so far this season.
Orland's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaime Albarran, who rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Albarran was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 65 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Diego Rico, who rushed for 94 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries.
Another reason for the win was Orland's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Leading the way was Grady Lloyd and his three sacks.
Corning's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Quinton Davis, who gained 104 total yards and a touchdown. Devin Williams was another key contributor, rushing for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Orland's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Oroville and 2-7 Corning (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 16.7% over those games). As for Corning, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.
Orland will head out on the road to face off against Gridley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Gridley will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. As for Corning, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Paradise at 7:30 p.m.
