Basketball Recap: Seton Catholic Sets Scoring Season-High Against Apache Junction

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Seton Catholic). They blew past the Apache Junction Prospectors 78-10 on Tuesday. The Sentinels have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 25 points or more this season.

Seton Catholic had a senior duo take command as Carmella Gallardo went 11 of 18 en route to 26 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals and Mia Dipuccio dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 boards. The game was Gallardo's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Giovanna Di Scala, who went 6 for 12 on her way to 12 points.

Seton Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Apache Junction still got an impressive performance from Isabella Winn, who posted seven points and five steals. That was a full 70% of Apache Junction's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Seton Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 23.8% in those games and 26% outside of them. As for Apache Junction, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Seton Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 78-8 victory against Globe on the 17th. As for Apache Junction, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 38-34 win against Tonopah Valley on the 20th.
