Cox Mill is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Weddington is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Cox Mill Chargers will be home for the holidays to greet the Weddington Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Cox Mill's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Even though Charlotte Country Day School scored an imposing 60 points on Friday, Cox Mill still came out on top. Cox Mill took their matchup against Charlotte Country Day School 72-60.
Cox Mill's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sean Dunn led the charge by scoring 20 points along with four steals. Dunn continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cruz Miller, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, even though Parkwood scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, Weddington still came out on top. Weddington took down Parkwood 70-56. Given Weddington's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Parkwood is ranked 402nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Grant Hamilton, who scored 27 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Weddington's points. KJ Younger was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Cox Mill's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Weddington, their victory bumped their record up to 7-0.
Cox Mill was able to grind out a solid win over Weddington in their previous matchup back in January, winning 70-62. Does Cox Mill have another victory up their sleeve, or will Weddington turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
