The Nogales Apaches scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Buena 62-32 on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Nogales has posted since December 28, 2023.
Nogales' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Johanna Simpson, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Simpson scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Mia Rodriguez, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Despite the loss, Buena still got an impressive performance from Icsiss Perez, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Nogales' victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-11. As for Buena, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nogales and Cholla will face off at 5:00 p.m. on January 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Cholla will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while Nogales is ranked 98th). Buena won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Desert View at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Desert View is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
