Having just played yesterday, the Nokomis Redskins will head out on the road to face off against the Carlinville Cavaliers at 3:00 p.m. on December 28th. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Nokomis sitting on three straight victories and Carlinville on seven.
Nokomis has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 20 points or more this season. They really took it to Lincolnwood for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-16 victory on the road. 49 seems to be a good number for Nokomis as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Nokomis found their leader in underclassman Mackenzie Mehochko, who scored six points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Brownback, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Carlinville didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly on Wednesday, but they still walked away with a 47-42 victory. Given Carlinville's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly is ranked 361st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nokomis' victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Carlinville, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.
Nokomis strolled past Carlinville in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a score of 47-29. Will Nokomis repeat their success, or does Carlinville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
