Currituck County is 2-8 against Hertford County since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Currituck County Knights will play host again and welcome the Hertford County Bears, where tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Hopefully Currituck County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Currituck County, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-41 loss to Northeastern.
Despite the loss, Currituck County saw an underclassman step up: Arianna White dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 steals. Eboni Bailey was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Hertford County entered their tilt with Bertie with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Hertford County walked away with a 57-44 victory over Bertie on Saturday. Given Hertford County's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while Bertie is ranked 461st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jaliyah Mitchell was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Hertford County's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adarielle Townsell, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Currituck County's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-4. As for Hertford County, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Tuesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Currituck County have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 37 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Hertford County, though, as they've been averaging only 28.2 rebounds per game. Given Currituck County's sizeable advantage in that area, Hertford County will need to find a way to close that gap.
Currituck County was able to grind out a solid victory over Hertford County in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 43-36. Will Currituck County repeat their success, or does Hertford County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
