Danville is 1-9 against Mount Carmel since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Ironmen will be playing in front of their home fans against the RED TORNADOES at 4:30 p.m. Danville will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
While Danville's victory against Midd-West wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Ironmen had just enough and edged out the Mustangs 8-7 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Ironmen have posted against the Mustangs since May 25, 2022.
Lincoln Diehl and Matthew Acor did most of the damage at the plate: Diehl went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Acor went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Daniel Walker was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Danville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Mount Carmel got the win against Milton on Friday by a conclusive 11-1. The RED TORNADOES might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by eight runs or more this season.
Jace Stever tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jon Morgante was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Klokis, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Mount Carmel is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Danville, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Danville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mount Carmel struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Danville couldn't quite finish off Mount Carmel when the teams last played on April 9th and fell 2-0. Will the Ironmen have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
