Southwest Onslow let Christian Escalera and Jacob Smith run wild. Escalera scored three runs while going 2-for-2, while Smith scored two runs while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits Smith has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Deonte Roberts, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Southwest Onslow always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .870. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, North Lenoir sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Midway on Wednesday.
Wriston Honeycutt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Honeycutt wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mason Sasser, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Blayden Pridgen was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
North Lenoir's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Southwest Onslow, their win bumped their record up to an identical 9-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Southwest Onslow has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Lenoir struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Southwest Onslow suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to North Lenoir in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Stallions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
