Highland Tech pushed their score all the way to 55 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 64-55 to Cherryville. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Highland Tech in their matchups with Cherryville: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the defeat, Highland Tech had strong showings from Elijah Whitted, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Garrick Spake, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Spake pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Meanwhile, Bessemer City's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Burns, falling 80-38. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Bessemer City has suffered since November 20, 2023.
Highland Tech has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Bessemer City, they bumped their record down to 3-14 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Highland Tech was dealt a bruising 83-48 loss at the hands of Bessemer City when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Highland Tech avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
