Basketball Game Preview: NSU University Sharks vs. Santa Fe Catholic Hawks

The NSU University Sharks will take on the Santa Fe Catholic Hawks in a tournament on Friday. NSU University will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

While NSU University didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Archbishop McCarthy by a score of 52-41 on Friday. Given the Sharks' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while the Mavericks are ranked 387th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

NSU University found their leader in sophomore Tatum Billie, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Billie's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Laly Luque, who posted 12 points and seven boards.

NSU University smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 52-18, which was the final score in Santa Fe Catholic's tilt against Ridge Community on Monday. The Hawks have struggled against the Bolts recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Sofia Hernandez was Santa Fe Catholic's leading scorer, having posted 11 points. Sasha Lawson held things down on the boards with six rebounds.

Santa Fe Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for NSU University, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.

This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: NSU University hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.6 points per game.
