The White River Hornets are taking a road trip to square off against the Kentlake Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. White River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.1 runs per game this season.
Orting hit White River with a eight-run third inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hornets fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 9-7.
Kennedy Selander was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Akins, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Kentlake waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Royals 16-2. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Soliesa Cruz and Leone Suamataia made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Cruz pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Suamataia struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. At bat, Cruz went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double, while Suamataia got on base in both of her plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Kentlake got a massive performance out of Riley Linnane, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Jasmine Demecilio also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Kentlake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .788. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Kentlake pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.7 runs over those games. As for White River, their loss dropped their record down to 12-7.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. White River has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .505. However, it's not like Kentlake struggles in that department as they've averaged .611. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
White River took their victory against Kentlake in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
