The Hampton Hawks can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 49-24 margin over Elba. Hampton's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Leading Hampton to victory were Nevaeh Lukassen and Gavin Gilmore. Lukassen dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Gilmore dropped a double-double on 21 points and 25 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Lukassen has scored at least 25% of Hampton's points. Another player making a difference was Macy Miller, who scored four points along with five assists.
Despite the defeat, Elba saw an underclassman step up: Addison Wysocki scored 24 points along with four blocks. The match was Wysocki's third in a row with at least ten points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Elba struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Hampton pulled down 25 offensive rebounds.
Hampton's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 1-4. As for Elba, their defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hampton will be home for the holidays to greet East Butler at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully East Butler focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 last Thursday. As for Elba, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Central Valley at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Central Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Tuesday.
