Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Valwood Valiants walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 42-21 win on Thursday. Considering Valwood has won 11 games by more than 20 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Valwood got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tayt Snellgrove out in front who rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also threw for 132 yards and two touchdowns on only ten passes. Snellgrove was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 62 yards. Marquis Fennell did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 91 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Several Trojans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bud Veal, who picked up 117 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Kolt McMichael, who threw for 322 yards and two touchdowns.
The win (which was Valwood's eighth in a row) raised their record to 11-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points per game. As for John Milledge Academy, their loss ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-1.
Valwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now. John Milledge Academy also has no future games currently scheduled.
