Griffin Morgan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on one hit and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Trevor Smith, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Abram Gehrett, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Adams Central). They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over Whitko on Saturday. The victory was nothing new for the Flying Jets as they're now sitting on six straight.
Cade Van De Weg made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Adams Central is 9-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. Van De Weg was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Carson Ross was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Max Byerly was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Adams Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Bluffton's record now sits at 16-9. As for Adams Central, their record is now 15-9.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Bluffton has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Adams Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Bluffton's way against Adams Central in their previous matchup back in May, as Bluffton made off with a 19-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
