The Gillespie Miners lost against the Carlinville Cavaliers last Thursday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Gillespie suffered a rough 62-36 defeat at the hands of Carlinville. Gillespie has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Carlinville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dom Alepra led the charge by scoring 23 points along with four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Sawyer Smith, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Gillespie has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Carlinville, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-6.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Litchfield the next time they take the court. Carlinville will host Litchfield at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Gillespie will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
