Cole hasn't had much luck against Jourdanton recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Indians at 7:00 p.m. Cole has given up an average of 12.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Cole's offense. They lost 15-0 to Marion on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Jourdanton had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.1 runs) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Tuesday. They never let the Ro-Hawks get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. Considering the Indians have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Megan Salazar made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Laney Briones was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Savanna Schuchart, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Jourdanton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 11 consecutive contests.
Jourdanton's victory bumped their record up to 20-5-2. As for Cole, their loss dropped their record down to 5-20.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cole hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. However, it's not like Jourdanton struggles in that department as they've averaged .416. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cole might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Jourdanton in their previous matchup on Friday. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
