Shallowater and Slaton are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will head out to square off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Shallowater had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Littlefield on Saturday. The Mustangs blew past the Wildcats 13-3. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.
Gracie Banks made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one double.

In other batting news, Skyler Stephenson was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Reese Conner also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Shallowater always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Littlefield only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Slaton). They never let Dimmitt get on the board and left with a 21-0 victory on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like Shallowater, Slaton also got a great game from a two-way player: Aracellie Muniz. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Muniz was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kolbi McCord, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Z'Naleigh Escobedo, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Shallowater's record is now 8-6-1. As for Slaton, their record now sits at 9-5-1.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Shallowater hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .381. However, it's not like Slaton struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Shallowater might still be hurting after the 18-4 loss they got from Slaton when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
