Even though the Plainfield South Cougars have not done well against the West Aurora Blackhawks recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Plainfield South came out on top against West Aurora by a score of 53-43. This was payback for Plainfield South, who suffered a 61-58 loss the last time these two teams met.
Tierra Abner went supernova for Plainfield South, scoring 17 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Abner has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Destynia Mcgruder, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why West Aurora lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brooklynn Johnson. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Savannah Fitzsimons, who scored six points along with two steals.
Plainfield South pushed their record up to 15-8 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for West Aurora, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-15.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Plainfield South will face off against Joliet Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Joliet Catholic will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 460th, while Plainfield South is ranked 137th). As for West Aurora, they will head out on the road to challenge Oswego at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
