It's playoff time, and Goddard had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Los Alamos Hilltoppers on Saturday as they made off with an 11-4 victory. Considering the Rockets have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Jaden Fuentes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other pitching news, Lucien Betancur looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Goddard's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 11-13 when he doesn't).
Back at the plate, Donovan Davis and Brady Duer did most of the damage at the plate: Davis went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Duer went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Duer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Porras, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
The win made it two in a row for Goddard and bumps their season record up to 13-14. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Los Alamos, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-7.
As of now, neither Goddard nor the Hilltoppers have any future games scheduled.
