Newport got off to a slow start in their contest last week, but they had no such trouble against Holy Cross as they cruised to a 47-point first half. Meanwhile, Holy Cross couldn't get anything going offensively, leaving the score at 47-0 heading into the break. Although Newport wound up losing the second-half battle, they still had enough in reserve to win the war.
No one put up better numbers for Newport than senior Shane Tyler porter, who brought his A game into the match. He rushed for 103 yards and 3 touchdowns. Sophomore Simon Keating was in the mix, too, providing Newport with three touchdowns. The win bumped their record up to 5-3. Holy Cross are still searching for that first win as they fell to 0-9.
Both teams are staying within the conference for their upcoming matches. Newport will stay at home next week against Newport Central Catholic at 7:00 PM. As for Holy Cross, they will face off against Lloyd Memorial.
