Lucy Dreher was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Maddy Pieroni, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Glenbard West fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Downers Grove North on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 6-5. The Hilltoppers haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Olivia Salerno spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Alexa Trybus made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Ainslie Bobroff was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Lyons' defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Glenbard West, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Lyons hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Glenbard West struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.3 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Lyons beat Glenbard West 6-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Hilltoppers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
