Coalfield AA recap Oct. 3, 2012
Bluefield was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to second in Coalfield AA. Earlier in the week, the Beavers triumphed over Gate City 63-21.
Bluefield extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Blue Devils, 63-21. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Wyoming East's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Aaron Griffith threw for 19 and one touchdown and Ty Treadway had 15 yards receiving. On the ground Jacob Summe chipped in 138 yards. Nik Walker helped Wyoming East's passing attack out by catching one ball for four yards.
Christian Hedinger made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Warriors defeated River View. The 6-foot-1 junior forced one fumble.
Webster County's Jacob Thayer and Hunter Given have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Thayer has thrown for 574 yards this season, while Given, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has nine catches for 168 yards. Summe from Wyoming East leads the league in rushing with 850 yards.
A big matchup in Coalfield AA this week will be when the Beavers take on the Raiders. As it stands, Bluefield is in second, while River View is in third.
The Beavers led the league in scoring this week after putting up 63 points on Gate City.
