Mountain House has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Kimball Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain House has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 209 points over their last three contests.
Even though Athenian scored an imposing 56 points on Saturday, Mountain House still came out on top. Mountain House came out on top in a nail-biter against Athenian and snuck past 59-56. Given Mountain House's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Athenian is ranked 104th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ej Campbell was the offensive standout of the contest as he scored 17 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 blocks. That makes it two consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Mountain House's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Assefa, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Kimball was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 57-51 to Vintage.
Kimball's loss came about despite a quality game from Jaden Ryan, who scored 14 points along with 8 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tobe Nwankwo, who scored 8 points along with 7 rebounds.
Their wins bumped Mountain House to 3-0 and Athenian to 3-1.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's game: Mountain House have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 7 threes per game. It's a different story for Kimball, though, as they've been averaging only 4.8 per game. Given Mountain House's sizeable advantage in that area, Kimball will need to find a way to close that gap. Mountain House didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Kimball when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 68-63 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mountain House since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
