Basketball Recap: SIUE East St. Louis Charter Takes a Loss

SIUE East St. Louis Charter played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Carlinville Cavaliers and fell 65-37. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cavaliers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why SIUE East St. Louis Charter lost, don't look at Kejuan Rives. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. Rives' evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Breon Johnson was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Sawyer Smith was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 29 points and nine rebounds for Carlinville. Those 29 points gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tate Duckels, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards.

This is the second loss in a row for SIUE East St. Louis Charter and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Carlinville, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the SIUE East St. Louis Charter Cougars face off against the Soldan International Studies Tigers at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Carlinville, they will welcome Hillsboro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
