Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool will take on the Psalms Christian Academy Ambassadors at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Psalms Christian Academy's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool's pitcher stepped up to hand Word of God Academy a 10-0 shutout on April 3rd. Considering Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool has won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Eliza Long was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alyse Sistrunk, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Cheryl Dishong was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Word of God Academy only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, Psalms Christian Academy had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 13-9 victory over Word of God Academy on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Ambassadors have won by exactly four runs.
Like Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool, Psalms Christian Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Nataleigh Jones. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts Jones has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Avery Eddington was incredible, getting on base in five of her nine plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ava Bass, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Psalms Christian Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Psalms Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool's way against Psalms Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in February, as Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool made off with an 8-1 win. Will Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool repeat their success, or does Psalms Christian Academy has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
