The Whitko Wildcats came tearing into Thursday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 70-59 victory over Maconaquah. Given Whitko's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Maconaquah is ranked 221st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Whitko found their leader in underclassman Jayma Stonebraker, who scored 23 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stonebraker has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Adriyanna Phillips, who scored 21 points.
When it comes to explaining why Maconaquah lost, one person who can't be blamed is Miranda Stoll. Despite the final result, she scored 24 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Bailey Carson, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Whitko pushed their record up to 14-3 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Maconaquah, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.
Whitko will be playing at home against Northfield at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Northfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. As for Maconaquah, they will head out on the road to challenge Southwood at 7:45 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Southwood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 last Thursday.
