Thunderbird had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 12-10 to make it four. They lost 21-5 to the Mesquite Wildcats. The Titans were not able to make up for their loss to the Wildcats from their previous meeting back in February of 2019.
Lily Rakich made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Mesquite, the win snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 6-14 record. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 1st (when they won 22-6).
On Mesquite's side, Zoe Cuevas made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, Cuevas posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with three runs.
In other pitching news, Layla Ontiveros looked comfortable as she tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February.
Back at the plate, Mia Gutierrez and Jasmine Jaramillo did most of the damage at the plate: Gutierrez went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Jaramillo went 2-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Gutierrez has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Magallanez, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Thunderbird will host Shadow Mountain at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Titans will need to watch out since the Matadors have now posted at least ten runs in their last six contests. As for Mesquite, they will be playing at home against Cactus Shadows at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight.
