Charles Weissman is off to a fast start in leading the Hartford Orioles to a 2-0 record this season. In the season opener against Milwaukee Washington, Weissman carried the ball only 14 times but picked up 113 yards and scored five touchdowns.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound running back has been the big story for the team this season and he showed how vital he is in Hartford's ground control offense.
Last week against a tougher Germantown team Weissman carried the load 41 times for a school record 326 yards and the team's three touchdowns as Hartford won, 24-7. He leads the Milwaukee-area in rushing and you can expect big things from him this week as the Orioles play 0-2 Oconomowoc Friday.
Fulton Moving Up the Receiving Leader Charts
As I mentioned last week, the rains for the first games played havoc with a lot of teams.
Wonewoc-Center had its opener against North Crawford cancelled (the two teams are attempting to somehow reschedule). Wonewoc opened last week against Weston and rolled to a 40-28 win as star receiver Micah Fulton hauled in 12 receptions for 129 yards and a touchdown.
Wonewoc-Center recently updated Fulton's career stats, adding his freshman totals and with the big game last Friday he now is in third place on the all-time career receiving chart with 185 catches for 1,624 yards and 25 touchdowns.
Just ahead of Micah is former teammate Dane Laack (2002-2004) with 193 catches and the career leader, Kole Heckendorf (2000-2003) of Mosinee, who has 235 career receptions.
Fulton, who last season led the state in catches with 89, has a very good shot of passing Heckendorf. He will be making a big push toward being No. 1 this weekend when his team faces 0-2 Bangor. Stay tuned for more updates on this fine receiver.
