The Lakewood Gators's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 99-25 defeat at the hands of Camden. Lakewood was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-13.
Lakewood lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ashley Boatright, who scored eight points. Kenyria Butler was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Joyce Edwards was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 40 points and 13 rebounds for Camden. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Edwards has scored at least a third of Camden's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylin Mungo, who dropped a triple-double on 17 points, ten assists, and ten steals.
Lakewood has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Camden, their victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-2.
Lakewood will be playing in front of their home fans against Marlboro County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Marlboro County comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Camden's road trip will continue as they head out to face Lake City at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Lake City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 168th, while Camden is ranked second).
