Kuna and Capital are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Kavemen will head out to challenge the Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Kuna is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Kuna didn't have quite enough to beat Centennial and fell 9-8.
Remington Quick made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Paisley Wiedenfeld, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Capital faced Meridian in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Golden Eagles skirted past the Warriors 5-3. The win continues a trend for the Golden Eagles in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won five in a row.
Kiya Caltabiano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on McKenna Chavez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Audrey McKibben was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Capital was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Kuna has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Capital, their record now sits at 11-5.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Kuna hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Capital struggles in that department as they've averaged .427. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Kuna might still be hurting after the 14-3 loss they got from Capital when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Kavemen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
