A big part of Providence's win came down to the chemistry between Luke Meador and his top target Shawn Matthews. Meador threw for 337 yards and four touchdowns while Matthews picked up 84 receiving yards and three scores. That's the most receiving yards Matthews has posted since back in August of 2024. Providence also got help from Kaleb Vines, who showed off his sure hands for 85 receiving yards.
Providence's defense made their presence known, laying out Cole Hough three times. Leading the way was Cory Cunningham with two sacks. He is becoming a predictor of Providence's success: when he posts at least one sack the team is 4-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Another thorn in Palisades' side was Adlai Martin, who picked up a sack and made nine total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 42-7, which was the final score in Ballantyne Ridge's tilt against Ardrey Kell on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while the Knights are ranked 61st).
Ballantyne Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Providence, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
