Baseball Recap: Perry Starts Season with Win at Home

Perry took care of business in their home opener on Wednesday. They walked away with a 12-7 victory over the Mesquite Wildcats. For the Pumas, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 win the Wildcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2016.

Michael Orbegozo tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rowen Noreus, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February of 2024. Luke Calendo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Perry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mesquite only posted an OBP of .355.

Looking ahead, Perry will take on Arcadia in a tournament on Thursday. As for Mesquite, they will head out on the road to square off against Chandler at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
