The Mater Dei Monarchs's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Beaumont Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on December 28th. Mater Dei has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,043 points over their last 12 contests.
Mater Dei has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 21 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Hoover 95-65 on the road. Given Mater Dei's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Hoover is ranked 131st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mater Dei got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Owen Verna out in front who scored 20 points along with five rebounds. The game was Verna's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brandon Benjamin, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Beaumont earned a 60-50 win over Indian Hill on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Beaumont.
It was another big night for Payton Joseph, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Morgan, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Mater Dei's victory bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Beaumont, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3.
