Santa Teresa and Branham are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Saints are taking a road trip to square off against the Bruins at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Santa Teresa has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with seven straight defeats, while Branham will come in with three straight victories.
Santa Teresa is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They took a 23-18 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ann Sobrato on Tuesday. Saints fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Bulldogs since on Tuesday.
Deanna Hernandez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Samantha Vidal was another key player, going 3-for-6 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, Branham gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 21-9 margin over Leland. Considering the Bruins have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jacque Connolly - Hojas was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Connolly - Hojas was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, CC Bonnard was incredible, going 4-for-6 with one home run, nine RBI, and two runs. Those nine RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madelyn Steiner, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and two RBI.
Branham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .596. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Santa Teresa's loss dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Branham, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
Santa Teresa might still be hurting after the 15-6 defeat they got from Branham when the teams last played back in April. Can the Saints avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
