Swansboro is 9-1 against White Oak since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Pirates will welcome the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. Swansboro's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so White Oak's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Swansboro will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs last Tuesday, then bounced right back against McMichael last Wednesday. The Pirates blew past the Phoenix 13-3.
Josh Scott made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Nick Quinones was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Zack Phillips, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but White Oak ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past Lejeune 8-7. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Devil Pups recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Brandon Brandt and Ryan Baxter did most of the damage at the plate: Brandt went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Baxter went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Jamison Avila also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Swansboro has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games. As for White Oak, their win bumped their record up to 6-10.
White Oak's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Swansboro has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for White Oak, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Swansboro keep running through batters, or will the Vikings buck the trend?
Swansboro beat White Oak 10-7 in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
