Fowler is 1-0 against Walsenburg since October of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Fowler Grizzlies will head out on the road to face off against the Walsenburg Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Fowler had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Hoehne 48-20 at home.
Fowler got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Trever Ketner out in front who rushed for 230 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Ketner was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 63 yards. Cael True did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 160 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Fowler's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Dylen Ormiston and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Walsenburg had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They really took it to Dolores Huerta Prep for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-14 win at home. With Walsenburg ahead 41-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Elton Chavez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 162 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries, while also throwing for 72 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Giovanni Aldretti, who gained 113 total yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Fowler to 3-4 and Walsenburg to 5-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Fowler has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 148.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Walsenburg struggles in that department as they've been even better at 237.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Fowler against Walsenburg in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 56-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fowler since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
