Wyoming Area hasn't had much luck against Holy Redeemer recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Warriors will host the Royals at 4:15 p.m. Wyoming Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Lake-Lehman hit Wyoming Area with a four-run third inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors came up short against the Knights, falling 9-1. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Wyoming Area saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marissa Giardina, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Holy Redeemer entered their tilt with Greater Nanticoke Area on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The Royals' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three matches.
Anne Carter made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mary Lombardi was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Abby Williams was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Holy Redeemer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .371 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Holy Redeemer's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Wyoming Area, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.
