The Evergreen Cougars waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They skirted past Golden 45-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Evergreen has posted yet this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Evergreen to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tatum Buenning, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds. Buenning hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Elle Buenning, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Despite the defeat, Golden saw an underclassman step up: Ashlyn Bates dropped a triple-double on 15 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals. Bates has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Brooklynn Carbone, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Evergreen's victory bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Golden, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
Evergreen will look to defend their home court on Friday against Pomona at 6:00 p.m. Pomona is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Golden, they will head out on the road to challenge Bear Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Bear Creek is ranked 114th, while Golden is ranked 137th).
