Edna is 2-8 against Yoakum since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cowboys will take on the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m.
Edna is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Friday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 9-5 to Tidehaven, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Brady Peters put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Peters was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Peters wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Weston Howard, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Yoakum had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Raiders.
Like Edna, Yoakum also got a great game from a two-way player: Garrett Green. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Green is becoming a predictor of Yoakum's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 3-1 (and 7-8-1 when he doesn't). Green was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Brett Lerch and Jamar Hopkins did most of the damage at the plate: Lerch scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Hopkins scored two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, Lerch posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Braden Berger, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Yoakum hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in five consecutive contests.
Edna's loss dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Yoakum, they now have a winning record of 10-9-1.
