The Goldwater Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Shadow Mountain Matadors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Goldwater hasn't scored more than two runs for five games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.
Goldwater managed to slip by Arcadia the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Bulldogs lost 11-0 to the Titans on Friday.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shadow Mountain). They were the clear victors by a 23-6 margin over Dysart on Friday. The Matadors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.
Casey Evans made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Evans was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Ava Maroulis was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Hannah Sheehan was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Shadow Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .923. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.
Shadow Mountain moved to 6-4 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Goldwater, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Goldwater has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. However, it's not like Shadow Mountain struggles in that department as they've averaged .609. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Goldwater suffered a grim 16-8 defeat to Shadow Mountain in their previous meeting back in February of 2022. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
