Ballard is a perfect 4-0 against Lafayette since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Ballard will host Lafayette at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Ballard's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Christian Academy-Louisville. The contest marked the Bruins' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Ryleah Lawrence made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI.
In other pitching news, Nora Givan looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, Jaedyn Lyons and Lucy Strobel did most of the damage at the plate: Lyons scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Strobel scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1. Payton Downey was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, Lafayette put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Paul Laurence Dunbar as Lafayette made off with a 14-2 win.
Like Ballard, Lafayette also got a great game from a two-way player: Lyla Hould. She tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Hould has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Brynna Harris was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kierstyn Kelley, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Lafayette hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive games.
Ballard pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lafayette, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
Ballard was able to grind out a solid win over Lafayette in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, winning 4-1. Will Ballard repeat their success, or does Lafayette has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
