3A District 5 recap October 1, 2013
Bourbon County extended the longest winning streak in 3A District 5 this week by beating Western Hills, 75-20. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
The Wolverines lost to Bourbon County 75-20 last week, the largest margin of any game. Nick Lockett ran for 164 yards in the loss.
John Hodge's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dalton Pope threw for 248 and 5 touchdowns and Snoop Johnson had 155 yards receiving. On the ground Brent Holman chipped in 226 yards. Jaxson Hilander helped Bourbon County's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 75 yards.
Holman was a beast in the backfield as the Colonels beat Don Miller's team.
He went 9-10 with 0 interception.
Trevor Jones provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Estill County bested Powell County. He completed 10 passes for 167 yards and 3 touchdowns and also ran for 176 yards. Jones' favorite target this week was Chipper Hitchcock, who caught 3 passes for 75 yards.
Marquaez Hill made the biggest impact on defense this week as Bourbon County beat the Wolverines. The 5-foot-7 sophomore.
Johnson was the best wideout in the league this week as the Colonels defeated Western Hills. Johnson tallied 4 receptions for 155 yards. Hilander helped Bourbon County's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 75 yards.
Bourbon County's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Colonels feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Pope has thrown for 1,244 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while Johnson has 15 catches for 460 yards.
The Engineers are in third place, while Bourbon County is in first place.
There should be lots of points scored when Estill County and the Colonels face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Mike Jones' team comes in having scored 162 this season, while Bourbon County has scored 297. The Engineers scored 43 points last week as they beat the Pirates.
