Providence Grove has gone 8-2 against Wheatmore recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Providence Grove Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Wheatmore Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Providence Grove knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Wheatmore likes a good challenge.
On Monday, Providence Grove came up short against Williams and fell 71-62. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (61), the Patriots still had to take the loss.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Andrew Thomas, who went 9 of 16 to rack up 21 points. That was a full 33.9% of Providence Grove's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Stephen Beeson, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards.
Meanwhile, Wheatmore hadn't done well against Southwestern Randolph recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Wheatmore was the clear victor by a 56-34 margin over Southwestern Randolph.
Wheatmore's win came from a few key players Providence Grove will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Parker Kines, who went 7 for 14 en route to 20 points in addition to five assists and three steals. That's the most assists he has posted since back in December of 2024. Weston Driggers was another key player, going 5 of 8 on his way to 12 points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Wheatmore's win bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Providence Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Providence Grove has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29 boards per game. However, it's not like Wheatmore struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Providence Grove was able to grind out a solid victory over Wheatmore when the teams last played back in January, winning 58-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for Providence Grove since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
