The Goddard Lions will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Maize Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Goddard earned a 22-14 win over Eisenhower. Goddard pushed the score to 22-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Eisenhower cut but never quite recovered from.
Goddard's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Micah Johnson, who rushed for 155 yards and a touchdown. Tyson Wallace was another key contributor, rushing for 77 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Maize's three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They strolled past Haysville Campus with points to spare, taking the game 48-32. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Maize got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Drew Kemp out in front who threw for 275 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.1 yards per attempt, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Another player making a difference was Bryson Hayes, who picked up 163 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Goddard is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Maize, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.
Goddard was taken down by Maize 42-0 in their previous meeting back in October of 2019. Will Goddard have more luck at home instead of on the road?
