The Marathon Dolphins and the Riviera Prep Bulldogs squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but sadly the Marathon Dolphins had to settle for second. They took a serious blow against the Bulldogs, falling 101-26. While losing is never fun, Marathon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 665th, while Riviera Prep is ranked sixth).
Marathon got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
ADRIAN CRUZ and
DAESHAWN HOLMES, who each put up five points. HOLMES also led the team in rebounds with five.
Fernando Romero went supernova for Riviera Prep, scoring 21 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Romero scored 15 or more points. Mason Fuentes was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten assists.
Marathon's defeat dropped their record down to 7-19. As for Riviera Prep, their win bumped their record up to 18-8.
Marathon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Riviera Prep, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Somerset Academy South Homestead at 7:00 p.m. Riviera Prep is coming into the game with eight straight victories at home, so Somerset Academy South Homestead is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
