The Christiansburg Blue Demons will square off against the Auburn Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
Christiansburg came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 15-9 to Staunton River.
Tyleigh Dillard was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Davis, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Dillard wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Christiansburg lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. They launched three more home runs than Staunton River's also-impressive total of two.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Auburn). They never let Bland County get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Faith Wilson made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season.
In other pitching news, Skyler Hodges looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Hope Wilson, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Mallory Akers was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.
Auburn is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. Christiansburg's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Christiansburg couldn't quite finish off Auburn in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 and fell 4-2. Can Christiansburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
