Catonsville and Carver A&T are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Comets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Catonsville is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
While Catonsville's victory against Western Tech & Environmental Science wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Comets narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Wolverines 9-7.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Carver A&T). They were the clear victors by a 21-12 margin over Western Tech & Environmental Science on Tuesday. With that victory, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.
Lily Anderson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Carver A&T got a massive performance out of Jocelyn Barker, who scored six runs and stole a base while going 6-for-6. Barker has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emelyse Carney, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Carver A&T was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Carver A&T has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Catonsville, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
Catonsville was able to grind out a solid win over Carver A&T in their previous matchup back in March, winning 9-4. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
